In cases where it’s possible to get more than five doses out of the vaccine vials, all doses should be used, the National Institute for Public Health (FHI) stated on Wednesday.

The vaccine manufacturer Pfizer adds two extra doses as a safety margin to each vial, and these doses should be used.

“We recommend to try getting more than five doses if there is a surplus of the vaccine in the vials,” FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg said.

Previously, Norway decided to look into whether the extra doses should be used.

On December 24, Steinar Madsen, medical director at the Norwegian Medicines Agency, told the newspaper VG that experiments show that it is “mostly OK” to take six doses out of each vaccine vial.

Denmark and the USA have also decided to use all doses, as the move can provide significantly more capacity.
