Oslo Municipality is open to lowering the electricity bills of its residents via its power company – but is dependent on the Minister of Finance changing the rules.

Oslo Municipality, the sole owner of Hafslund Eco (Norway’s second-largest power producer), wants to utilize Hafslund Eco to give people lower electricity bills, the newspaper VG writes.

City Council chief Raymond Johansen (AP) says that the Municipality plans to cut the income they get from the power company to offer customers attractive fixed price agreements.

City Councilor for Business Victoria Marie Evensen (AP) says they want to offer private customers the same offer that the industry has, long-term and predictable agreements – but that it requires state authorities to make a rule change that allows for such a framework.

Evensen believes that they could have an offer in place within a few months if Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (SP) contributes on the rules side.
