The man who was shot by the police at Bislett on Tuesday morning tried to attack several people, according to the police task leader Torgeir Brenden.

Police were notified that the man attacked people with a knife at 8:57 AM on Tuesday.

“A patrol was close by and ended up arresting the person. First, they tried to run him down when he tried to stab a person. In that connection, a police car collided with a wall, and the police were then attacked by this person with a knife,” Brenden said.

“Extremely serious act of violence”

He added that the police are now working to find out how many people the man has attacked.

“We know that more than one person was attacked, and as I said, he also attacked the police. In that connection, the perpetrator was shot by the police,” the operations manager said.

The person who was shot was taken to Ullevål hospital. His condition is unknown.

“There is no doubt that this was an ongoing, extremely serious act of violence, as the police did everything in their power to stop the attack and prevent the loss of human life.”
