Sports chief Berit Kjøll is asking the Norwegian government to remove all restrictions that limit sports practice from next week.
Parts of sports activities are still waiting to get back on track due to the pandemic restrictions. Lately, many grassroots sports for adults had to deal with restrictive infection control measures.
Earlier this week, the government announced that there would be significant relief next week. Sports chief Berit Kjøll demands that the remaining restrictions be removed.
“The time is ripe for full reopening for absolutely all members of Norwegian sports. From next week, we do not expect any restrictions that limit the opportunities to carry out training, matches, tournaments, or top-level sports,” she said.
Losses
Kjøll refers to the fact that Norwegian sports have suffered major losses during this pandemic, among other things, in the form of a decrease in membership numbers in many sports. The financial losses are also large.
Kjøll also hopes that all audience restrictions on sports events will be removed in the time to come.
“It is absolutely crucial that there is significant relief, as our sports organizers will suffer heavy losses if the restrictions continue. Norwegian sports are based on volunteering, but now we have to realize that without income, there will be no sports,” Kjøll warned.
