Several of the larger municipalities in Norway have started vaccinating students who are going abroad this autumn. The National Institute of Public Health (FHI) encourages all municipalities to find adequate solutions.
The FHI says that those who are going to study or go to school abroad are not given priority over others.
“However, we have encouraged the municipalities to find solutions so that those who are going to study abroad can get both doses before they leave the country.
“It is the municipalities that must see to what extent this is possible in individual cases,” section leader Are Stuwitz Berg at the FHI told news bureau NTB.
NTNU in Trondheim is among the educational institutions that have made an overview of students who are going on an exchange. They are now trying to clarify the vaccination issue for the students in their study or home municipality.
Vaccination underway in larger municipalities
Ansa, the organization for Norwegian students abroad, has also been notified that the larger municipalities will vaccinate students who are going abroad.
Both Stavanger and Ålesund are among the municipalities that have sent out messages according to which international students can be vaccinated.
“Now, we in Ansa hope that all other municipalities in Norway will follow their example. We also ask students to contact their GP,” Ansa leader Morgan Alangeh noted.
In 2020, 13,500 Norwegian students studied abroad, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB). That is the lowest registered number of students since 2010.
