Northern Norway will have the best weather in the next few days, while Eastern Norway must prepare for both rain and snow before the weekend.

“Winter is coming back, and spring is put on pause for a couple of days. But from Friday, the weather will calm down again,” Meteorologist Charalampos Sarchosidis at the Meteorological Institute said.

The northernmost part of the country will have the best weather in the next few days.

It will be very cold with double-digit numbers of minus degrees, but offshore winds will ensure sunny weather.

Danger warning

Rogaland and the area along the coast up to Bodø will be affected by strong winds. A danger warning has been issued for strong gusts of wind up to and including Thursday.

There is a low-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean near Iceland which means that there will be bad weather in Southern Norway in the next few days.

A danger warning has been issued for large amounts of precipitation in the eastern mountains and Rogaland, which applies until Thursday. It will also rain in Western Norway, but no danger warning has been issued.

“There are slightly lower temperatures in the eastern mountains than in the west, so the precipitation will come as snow in several places,” Sarchosidis said.

Warning for motorists in Eastern Norway

Sarchosidis warned that there might be challenging driving conditions in Eastern Norway in the next two days.

“We can expect major problems in traffic due to the rainfall and snow, which probably comes as a surprise to many around the Oslo area,” he said.

People should also expect snowstorms over the mountains as a result of both precipitation and strong winds.

The temperature means that the precipitation will come as sleet in many places. At the coast and lower in the country, the precipitation will eventually turn to rain.

Calmer towards the weekend

Towards the weekend, the weather will be calm all over Norway. There will be some rain in the west and some snow in the north, but otherwise, it will be fine.

Østafjells will have periods of sun again. In Central Norway, it will also vary a bit, but with periods of sun there as well.

Next week, the trend is more calm weather.

There will be a high-pressure system over Great Britain, ensuring that no strong storms come towards Norway. There will be some rain in Western Norway and some snow in the north, but Eastern Norway will probably be dry.
