Police have started evacuating people after the fire flared up in several places on Spjeldsfjellet in Sotra – in the same area where it burned heavily last week.
The emergency services are on-site in connection with a grass fire with a significant potential of spreading, the Western Police District stated in a press release.
“The police is assisting the fire service with the evacuation of residents in the area. No injured people or buildings have been reported so far,” the police announced.
The fire service was notified at 2 PM about a fire in several places at Spjeld and Fjæreidpollen on Sotra. Twenty-five minutes later, they were informed that the fire was approaching a residential area by Spjeldsfjellet, newspaper Bergens Tidende writes.
Helicopters assisting fire service
According to the newspaper Bergensavisen, two helicopters have been sent to assist the fire service.
Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) writes that there are visible flames and strong smoke on the south side of Spjeldsfjellet.
Last week, more than 500 people were evacuated in connection with a major fire.
