The Minister of Transport unveiled Postal Service robot

The Minister of Transport and Communications Ketil Solvik-Olsen received the first delivery from the autonomous letter and parcel robot. The robot is developed for the Norwegian Postal service (Posten Norge).

The robot is the first of its kind in the world and is being tested for mail and parcel delivery in Kongsberg this autumn.

During the unveiling during the Arendal week, an SMS was received on the Cabinet Minister’s mobile phone. The text message contained a pick-up code from the Postal Service that allowed Solvik-Olsen to retrieve his parcel from the robot.

The robot will be able to replace the mailbox as we know it today in certain areas. You will be notified of letters and parcels destined for you, and the robot will return in the evening and will be filled up with tomorrow’s deliveries at night. The letter and parcel robot will cover up to one hundred households.

– In the Postal Service, we have high ambitions to encourage innovation and to apply new technology. Autonomous technology is not science fiction anymore, it is the reality. We are looking forward to many exciting applications, says CEO of the Norwegian Postal Services, Tone Wille, in connection with the unveiling.

The autonomous letter and parcel robot of the Postal Service is developed in cooperation with Buddy Mobility.
