Norway’s Therese Johaug won the gold medal in the 10 km classic race at the Beijing Olympic Games on Thursday.

Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen ended up second, while Krista Parmakoski took the bronze medal.

Johaug managed to secure her second individual gold medal of the Olympic Games in stunning fashion.

“I felt I had the necessary power in the final stretch. I felt good. This was fun,” she said after the race.

“I was portioning out my efforts. If you give too much towards the top of the hill, it can hurt you in the last few kilometers. I wanted to keep my power for the final stretch. I felt good at the end,” she added.

“Fantastic experience”

Johaug was clearly moved and sang along with the Norwegian anthem during the medal ceremony.

“It was another fantastic experience, to stand up there and get the gold. I feel enormous joy and relief.

“I have trained an insane amount for these golds. I have been one of the favorites, but you have to succeed on the actual day (of the competition), and it is fantastic that I did it,” she said.
