Erling Braut Haaland made a brilliant debut for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. He scored three times after coming on as a substitute en route to a 5-3 win over Augsburg.
Haaland came on after 56 minutes. He was getting ready to come on when the home team went 3-1 up. Haaland only needed about three minutes to score when he placed the ball inside the far post.
Just over a minute later, Jadon Sancho equalized for 3-3 after he and Haaland found themselves against Augsburg’s keeper.
Then it was a little while before Haaland put Dortmund 4-3 up. He only had to knock the ball over the line of the open goal.
He was ice cold with his left foot when he made it 5-3. He needed 24 minutes to score his hat trick.
Augsburg took the lead after on 34 minutes. Florian Niederlechner took advantage of the fact that the Dortmund defenders were too preoccupied with the ball and not him. The attacker slid the ball in.
The lead came against the run of play. Dortumnd’s Marco Reus missed two big chances earlier in the game.
Marco Richter needed just half a minute in the second half to make it 2-0, with a hard long shot.
Julian Brandt reduced the deficit after a quick turn and a good finish inside the penalty area.
Niederlechner then increased the lead for the hosts to 3-1.
From the start
Haaland was brought to the German club in the January transfer window. He had offers from a number of giants in Europe. A buy-out clause of approximately NOK 200 million made it a smart buy for BVB.
On Friday, Haaland can make his debut at home in front of over 80,000 spectators, when Borussia Dortmund play against Cologne.
Haaland will be difficult to keep away from the starting lineup after the Augsburg show.
