Norwegians flocked around the television screens to watch Karsten Warholm’s hunt for the World Cup gold on Monday. 1,465,000 saw him win the 400 meter hurdles final in Doha.
Alongside Warholm, the brothers Henrik, Filip and Jakob Ingebrigtsen also ran the 5000 meter event on Monday evening. NRK had an average of 1,007,000 viewers during the broadcast.
1,314,000 followed the 5000 meter run from start to finish.
These are brilliant figures and show that Warholm and the Ingebrigtsen brothers have leaped into the hearts of the Norwegian people. It is rare that we see such TV viewing figures, and then it is extra fun that it is athletics that currently brings together the Norwegian people, says NRK sports manager Egil Sundvor in a press release.
By comparison, an average of 589,000 were sitting in front of their televisions when Karsten Warholm took gold at the 400 meter hurdles during the European Championships in Berlin last summer.
