20-year-old Erling Braut Haaland emerged victorious from this year’s selection of Europe’s best football player under 21 years. He will be awarded the Golden Boy trophy on December 14.

He beat competitors such as Ansu Fati (Barcelona), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), and Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich).

He also beat his teammate Jadon Sancho in Borussia Dortmund.

The Golden Boy prize is awarded by the Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport since 2003.

Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, and Paul Pogba are all among the previous winners.

First Norwegian

This is the first time that a Norwegian has received the prestigious award.

Haaland was also nominated last year, but then the award went to Atlético Madrid’s talented striker João Felix.

The award is a collaboration between Tuttosport and a number of European sports newspapers.

A total of 40 football journalists from various newsrooms voted, including from L’Équipe (France), Marca (Spain), The Times (UK), Bild (Germany), La Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy), and Aftonbladet (Sweden).
