Filip Ingebrigtsen suffered a setback during the 1500 meters qualifications but still advanced to the EM final in Berlin on Wednesday. His brother also qualified.
Filip Ingebrigtsen is the reigning EM champion at 1500 meters but had to really work when, at 600m into the qualifying heat, a competitor fell in front of him.
The reigning champion, however, showed great character and worked back quickly up to the leading group. He ran into third place and directly into the EM final with the time 3.40.88.
‘’A little luck. I’ll be back soon, but I tried to take it gradually. Fortunately, the others were not smart to the fact that they were moving away. They made it easy for me, but it cost,” said Filip Ingebrigtsen to NRK news.
The brother’s also in
The 25-year-old got a bleeding wound on his leg after the fall and thought that it had to be sewn up.
In the third heat, little brother Jakob Ingebrigtsen was brilliant. The 17-year-old, unlike his brother, had a perfect race and went straight ahead as a second man in the heat with the time 3.40.81.
The oldest brother, Henrik Ingebrigtsen, continued to be the first in the Ingebrigtsen family.
While younger brother Jakob Ingebrigtsen is debuting in the European Championship in the senior class, Henrik Ingebrigtsen, the European champion, came back in 2012 ahead of the London Olympics.
Edman out of final
Henrik Ingebrigtsen and compatriot Ferdinand Kvan Edman were in the first qualifying heat on Wednesday, and Ingebrigtsen continued as third in the heat after a strong finish. The 27-year-old ran 3.49.54.
Edman came in at number seven in the heat and failed to move on to the final.
In two days it is the final in the middle distance, and on Saturday is the 5000 meters.
