Therese Johaug had full control of the women’s 15-kilometer skiathlon on Saturday. The cross-country star secured her first individual Olympic gold.

The race picked up speed when the skis were changed midway. Then there were only four runners in the lead, and Johaug was first. She managed to defend her advantage.

In the end, Russian Natalya Neprjajeva and Austrian Teresa Stadlober came in second and third, respectively.

There was a lot of debate on how the Norwegian team would respond to the height ahead of the race. The competitors arrived in China a few days before and were given a little extra time to prepare.

It ended up not being a problem for Johaug, who started off strong and was in the lead for large parts of the race.
