Costello played three seasons in the German elite series and was the league’s second-best scorer last season.
In total, he scored 106 points in 104 games for Krefeld.
The 34-year-old from Iowa has previously played for various clubs in the AHL and ECHL.
Between 2014 and 2017, he was the captain of the Allen Americans with 426 goal points in 276 games and two ECHL titles.
