According to a recent survey, almost half of respondents believe that Norway should apply to host the Winter Olympics in 2030. Only 27% are against the idea.

“It is nice – and positive,” board member Kristin Kloster Aasen in the IOC told the newspaper VG.

In the nationwide survey, which was conducted by Respons on behalf of VG, 49% of respondents say they view a Norwegian application to host the Winter Olympics in 2030 as positive. 27% see it as negative, while 23% “do not know.”

The news comes at the same time as sports leaders from all over the country gather in Tromsø this weekend. Among other things, a possible new Norwegian Olympic application will be discussed.

Sports President Berit Kjøll has set up a committee that has explored the interest in a new application internally in Norwegian sports. The committee will present its work at the management meeting of the NIF in Tromsø on Saturday. The Sports Council must make a decision in one year.

“Nevertheless, it is clear that a future Olympics and Paralympics in Norway can not be carried out without support from the Norwegian people. This survey is thus a good contribution to our further work,” Kjøll told the newspaper.
