The European Handball Championship in Trondheim has been canceled. The Norwegian Handball Association (NFH) did not get approval for an exemption from Norwegian infection control regulations.

The decision was announced on Monday through NHF’s Twitter account.

Trondheim must thus scrap its organization plans.

Thus, the Norwegian female handball team will not get the advantage of playing in its own country for the first time since 2010.

At that time, Norway played some matches at home, before the European Championships ended in Denmark with a Norwegian gold, after a victory against Sweden in the finals.

Corona trouble

On Friday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg told news bureau NTB that there are “many signs that indicate that it will be difficult to arrange the European Championships.”

Now Denmark can take over the entire European Championship play-off.

The Danes were sub-organizers and were to host about 40% of the matches according to the original plan.
