Tomoe Zenimoto Hvas and Anne Vilde Tuxen will carry the Norwegian flag and lead the Norwegian squad when the Tokyo Olympics open on Friday.

It is the first time in history that Norway presents two flag bearers during the opening ceremony.

Several countries, including Denmark and the United Kingdom, have long announced that they will do the same.

During the summer games in Rio de Janeiro four years ago, the shooter Ole-Kristian Bryhn was the flag bearer. In London in 2012, the honorable assignment went to the paddler Mira Verås Larsen.

Norway has had a total of 46 flag bearers in the Olympics.
