The match between Norway’s “emergency national team” and Austria on Wednesday ended with a draw (1:1) in the national league’s group final.

Norway deservedly took the lead after an hour of play when Ghayas Zahid scored for 1:0.

At that time, Norway only needed one goal to secure its promotion to the A-division and a probable extra chance to join the replay if the national team does not succeed in the World Cup qualifiers next year.

Austria’s Adrian Grbic tied the score in the fourth minute of overtime.

Norway had to score at least two goals and win the match to win the group and advance to the A-division.

It seemed impossible when all the originally selected players ended up in corona quarantine and were denied national team games.

The national team’s vice-captain Omar Elabdellaoui recently tested positive for coronavirus, so all his close contacts must be quarantined.

Still, the reserves exceeded all expectations in Vienna.
