The county councils in Inland and Møre og Romsdal will try out electric cycling on six roads in the national parks at Jotunheimen and Trollheimen.

“Initially, it is open for electric cycling at Glitterheimvegen and Koldedalsvegen in Jotunheimen National Park and Utladalen landscape conservation area,” says Haavard Elstrand, director of environment and agriculture at the County Governor of the Inland to the Nation.

He says that the stretches should be part of a trial project together with four stretches in the Trollheimen / Innerdalen landscape conservation areas, which fall under the County Government of Møre og Romsdal.

For the sake of the wild reindeer, the County Governor of Inland will not open the use of electric bicycles in the national parks of Dovrefjell and Rondane at this time.

In the autumn, the Environment Directorate, on behalf of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, asked the County Governor to propose changes to regulations that allow the use of electric bicycles on roads in the protected areas where there is already a lot of cycling.

The case is being sent to a hearing, which can allow as early as summer 2020 for the use of electric bicycles in the proposed areas, says Elstrand.
