Justice Minister Monica Mæland (Høyre) does not think many foreign tourists will come to Norway this summer and has encouraged Norwegians to vacation in their own country.

“If I’m going to be honest, then I don’t think there’s going to be any big tourism this summer,” Mæland said via a digital question time on Sunday afternoon.

She emphasized that it is impossible to know if the situation will be unchanged in a few months, but that it does not seem very likely.

“That’s why we also have these bailouts for small, medium and large companies that will help as many people as possible through this difficult situation,” she said.

She also pointed out that Norwegians should plan a Norwegian holiday this summer.

“Maybe we can use our time and money to experience a little in our own country and at the same time help the tourism industry, so that as many people as possible survive,” said Maeland, who revealed that she is spending her summer vacation in Sørlandet.
