Foreigners accounted for 507,041 overnight stays in Norway in January. In hotels, the increase in foreign overnight stays was 14 per cent.

In total, there were 1.9 million commercial nights in Norway in January. This is 9.3 per cent more than at the same time last year. The hotels accounted for 1.6 million of the nights, according to figures from Statistics Norway.

Two-thirds of the increase was Norwegians themselves. In percentage terms, however, the increase is greatest in foreign overnight stays. Foreign hotel stays increased by 14 per cent compared to January last year.

The largest increase was in Trøndelag, Rogaland and Vestfold and Telemark, while Møre and Romsdal is the only county with a slight decline.

Percentage growth is greatest in camping, in holiday cabins and in hostels. The increase was 12 per cent in camping and 11 per cent in cabins and in hostels overall.

Increase in overnight stays is not new. During 2019, the increase was 4 per cent compared with 2018. It was the sixth consecutive year of growth. In December, the increase was 11 per cent.
