A new survey from Virke shows that Norwegians are raring for a summer holiday. 8 out of 10 said they plan to go on a summer vacation with 42% of these wanting to holiday abroad.

A wait of two years for a summer holiday abroad

Some 42% of Norwegians surveyed by Virke want to take this year’s summer holiday abroad. This comes after more than two years of holidays being affected by travel restrictions, closed borders, and infection control measures in the wake of the global pandemic.

Maria Østerhus Lobo, Head of Politics and Communication at Virke, spoke of the pent-up demand for Norwegians to holiday overseas.

She told NTB that “after two years of Norwegian holidays, many people now plan to travel abroad during the holidays. Denmark, Spain, and Sweden are without a doubt the most popular destinations for us Norwegians.”

A recent survey conducted by NHO gave somewhat lower. Figures they obtained showed that only 23% want to holiday in Norway with only 14% wanting to holiday abroad. Kristin Krohn Devold, CEO of NHO Reiseliv, felt that many will want to spend their summer holiday in Norway despite a lack of travel restrictions throughout Europe.
