If you have booked a ticket before January 23, you will not be charged the new fee. The tax-free shopping bag is also allowed.

Earlier this month, it became known that Norwegian Airlines would start charging for hand luggage that does not fit under the seat in front of you.

The airline company has sent out a message detailing the new rate regulations, which are valid on tickets purchased from January 23 onwards:

If you have hand luggage that fits under the front seat, you pay nothing extra (max 10 kilos).

If you have a trolley case or bag to be placed in the overhead compartment, you must pay an additional fee with the cheapest ticket type “LowFare”. The price will typically vary between NOK 50 domestically / Scandinavia and NOK 90 long-distance, according to the company.

On “LowFare +” you can bring a small trolley case, but the hand luggage can weigh a maximum of 10 kilos and if there is no space in the over head compartment you have to check in the suitcase at the gate. Alternatively, you can check in a suitcase with a maximum of 23 kilos without charge or buy priority boarding.
On “Flex” and “Premium” which allows you to carry-on a trolley case and hand luggage totaling 15 kilos, in addition to checking in two pieces of luggage up to 23 kilos each.

If you need to carry a suitcase in the overhead compartment, you must either pay or buy one of the more expensive ticket classes at Norwegian.

At the same time, Norwegian also makes some other changes:

The hand luggage you can take with you on the plane can now be slightly larger. The weight limit on checked luggage has increased from 20 to 23 kilos.

Customers with flexible tickets can carry hand luggage up to 15 kilos, from 10 kilos with the old rules.

– What about the duty-free bags, can you bring them as long as they can fit under the seat?

– “Yes, and you can have that in addition to the 10 kilos. As a general rule, we can have a normal carry bag per passenger,” says press contact Tonje Næss in Norwegian, to E24.
