Norwegians accounted for seven out of ten nights at Norwegian hotels and campsites in 2019. This was the sixth consecutive year of record in total overnight stays.

There was a total of 35.2 million overnight stays at hotels, campsites, hostels and the like in Norway in 2019, according to figures from Statistics Norway.

There were 780,000 more Norwegian and 560,000 more foreign overnights in 2019 compared to the previous year. Hotel accommodations in particular increased.

Oslo had the highest proportion of overnight stays among both Norwegians and foreigners. For foreign overnight stays, Hordaland came second, while Trøndelag had the second most overnights by Norwegians. Sogn and Fjordane was the only county with more foreign than Norwegian accommodation.

In December 2019, there were just over 1.6 million overnight stays in Norway. Hotel overnight stays increased by 10 per cent, while overnight stays at campgrounds and huts increased by 16 and 28 per cent respectively, compared to December 2018.
