Everything is already booked through the peak season in Lyngen and the neighboring municipality of Kåfjord. Ski tourists are now being sent to other municipalities in the area.

About 30,000 foreign ski tourists visit Nord-Troms every year, according to Visit Lyngenfjord. Already everything is booked for March and April, which is high season, writes NRK.

The tourists are therefore being sent to other places in the area.

– “We see that there is great potential for top trips in both Skjervøy, Nordreisa and Kvænangen and there are many beds still available. We want to do something about that,” says Tourism Manager Georg Sichelschmidt of Nord-Troms to the channel.

Visit Lyngenfjord has taken steps to get ski tourists to discover other mountain areas in Troms. With a top tour guide for Skjervøy, Nordreisa and Kvænangen, created by the winter sports magazine Free Flyt in collaboration with the travel company, they hope that tourists choose new destinations.

– “We see a challenge in sustainability. There is rubbish and makeshift toilets everywhere. We have to facilitate such things and lead, which we have not been so good at,” says top tour guide and avalanche expert Espen Nordahl to Free Flyt.

Tourism Manager Sichelschmidt hopes the project will eventually lead to more local jobs. At the same time, he believes it is sustainable to spread tourism over a larger area in Nord-Troms.
