The new Scandinavian Mountains Airport, located at the border between Norway and Sweden, has opened.

On Sunday, the first aircraft will land at the airport, the first airport to be built in Sweden in 20 years.

Travel time from Trysil airport is 40 minutes, while it takes 10 minutes to the nearest ski resort in Sälen. Airlines BRA and SAS will fly to and from the airport, operating during the winter season between December 22 and April 12.

About 35,000 travelers are expected in the first season, with guests going to the ski resorts on both Swedish and Norwegian sides, according to Destinasjon Trysil.

“This is big for us and something we have been waiting for a long time,” says tourism manager Gudrun Sanaker Lohne in Trysil.
