The business community in Tromsø wants to make the city “the No. 1 go-to destination for Christmas!” Snow, northern lights and polar nights are among the attractions they highlight.

“The Christmas town Tromsø will be the world’s best Christmas town,” Chief Executive Officer in Tromsø City Center, Shilan Ghadani, said in a press release.

Snow, darkness, and northern lights are among the ingredients that will separate the wheat from the chaff in the international competition to be the best at Christmas, noted director Trude Nilsen of Næringsforeningen in the Tromsø region.

The project will create a Christmas atmosphere and more jobs in the area, generating a generous amount of “heart warmth.”

Visit Tromsø-Region, Næringsforeningen i Tromsøregionen, and Tromsø Sentrum are behind the concept “Tromsø – the whole of Norway’s Christmas town.”

The Christmas town will have its official opening on November 18, with the lighting of Christmas lights in the town’s Christmas street. There will be a Christmas market and an ice rink in the center.

Drøbak in Viken also likes to profile itself as a Christmas town with its own Christmas house.
