Trondheim municipality will become the national pilot municipality for testing the flexible school start-up, one month after the government opened the scheme.

“We have a lot of research that points to the importance of the child’s age at school start. We can no longer close our eyes and drive on as before,” says Camilla Trud Nereid, municipal director for upbringing and education in Trondheim municipality to Adresseavisen.

Because the municipality of Trondheim wants to give all children a better school start, the municipality wants to test different models for flexible school start, rather than having to start school at the age of six. The rigorous schooling has long been debated. Claims and facts have been served in the debate: Boys struggle more than girls. January children do better in school than December children.
