Analysts and fish exporters believe a brexit may affect Norwegian fishermen and lead to a drop in the price of cod.
– Half of what we manufacture of fish fillets is shipped to the UK. If there is a brexit and the pound is weakened compared to the Norwegian krone, this will affect us in a major way, says Frank Kristiansen, manager of Båtsfjordbruket in eastern Finnmark, says to Dagens Næringsliv.
The demand for salmon is so large that it probably won’t be affected, but Norwegian haddock exports are dependent on the British and American markets.
– A weak pound is definitely not a good thing for the Norwegian whitefish sector, seafood analyst Allison Giskeødegård in Nordea Markets says.
Britain is the fourth-largest market for seafood exports, after Poland, Denmark and France.
