Equinor has transported gas to Western Sahara despite the fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discourages all activity towards the occupied area, writes Dagsavisen.

“We can confirm that Equinor has sold a cargo of butane from Kårstø to the company Gulf Petrochem (GP). GP then re-sold this to a customer in Laayoune, and we transported the cargo there for GP,” writes Eskil Eriksen at Equinor, in an email to Dagsavisen.

Equinor regrets that it was not stopped. Eriksen says this is the first time they have sold a cargo for delivery in Laayoune, the largest city in Western Sahara.

As it may be contrary to international law, Norway discourages Norwegian business to operate in Western Sahara.
