The strong heat and drought in southern Norway has led to the end strawberry season of the year.
“We just have to get through this summer and hope it will be better next year,” says carrier Thor Graff in Røyken in Buskerud to NRK.
On Wednesday, he had to close the self-catering option on the farm – when the berries were gone.
“It’s bone dry and hard as rock when we do not have water,” said the farmer, who will go with hundreds of thousands of kroner in deficit due to the season’s shortage.
The situation is not better in Oppland.
– I expect that the season is soon over for most now, except for a few who have varieties that mature later. Then there will be a good import eventually, says strawberry producer Per Otto Kaurstad from Ringebu.
