Still no trace of the Burundian chess players

The Burundian women's national chess team was reported missing  in Tromsø Saturday. Sunday did two officials also disappear, but police see no reason to start an investigation. 

Saturday did the tournament management get a message that Burundi's women's team, consisting of five people, did not attend in day's session. In addition disappeared a male player in Burundi from the open class team. The six were gone  Friday, wrote the newspaper VG Saturday. Sunday wrote the local newspaper Nordlys that the two other Burundian officials have disappeared. 

The women's team and the male player are now excluded from the tournament, while the rest of the team in open class will continue with three people. All players are around 20 years  old . 

- We have been following up the case and tried to figure what has happened. But we have no information on where players are, says assistant tournament director for the chess Olympics, Morten Sand, to Nordlys. 

At a press conference Sunday night stated the chess Ols Press Officer Morgan Lillegård that the organizers do not take any further action in the matter. He said to the web page iTromsø that it is unusual, but not illegal that players suddenly quit the tournament. Two of them stayed in a hotel, while the rest were lodged in a house in Tromsø. The accommodation was spotlessly empty. The case is now sent over to the the police. 

- The police have been informed about the incident, but it is not reviewed, says Lillegård to NRK. 

Chess players from Burundi have legal residence in Norway and the rest of the EEA area for three months.
