The body was picked up by the shrimp trawler, Remøy, in the Barents Sea and was picked up by representatives from a funeral home and the police on the docks in Båtsfjord on Friday.
The Norwegian fishing vessel found the corpse in the trawl in Smutthullet in the Barents Sea on Thursday.
The body is characterized to have been in the sea for a long time, the police have stated.
The trawler reported about the body at 10 o’clock. Skipper Kjetil Ervik tells Fiskeribladet that it was an unpleasant experience for those who worked on deck.
“When we pulled in the nets, we discovered that there was something far ahead on the trawl, and we first thought there was some oil clothing. But we quickly realized that there was something inside the oil clothes too,” says Ervik.
It turned out to be a dead body, and the four who worked on deck could quickly ascertain that the person had been dead for a long time.
At the present time, we have no information about a person who is missing in the area, reported operations manager Christian Andreassen in Troms police district to NTB.
He adds that the body is characterized by having been in water for a long time, and it is therefore not possible to determine either gender or age of the deceased. The police have created investigation cases, and the ID group of Kripos is also involved.
