Central Norway gets the best weather this weekend

The west part of the country south of Stad will be wet with small glimpses of sun, while Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag get some dry weather over the weekend.

– “Those who clearly get the finest weather this weekend are Central Norway. To some extent also Northern Norway in the outer regions. They will receive the least clouds,” says meteorologist on duty Kristian Gislefoss at the Meteorological Institute to NTB.

The last few days have been marked by a lot of stormy weather and strong winds that have closed roads and given danger warnings. In Western Norway it will calm down throughout Thursday. In most of the country it will get quite quiet throughout the afternoon today. The exception is Svalbard, where they will still be getting a lot of wind.

On Friday, a low pressure system comes back into southern Norway. It will then rain again and be windy in some places.

Lovely weather in central Norway
There will be dry weather on the coast of Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag throughout the weekend. In Møre og Romsdal, south-easterly winds with mild weather have been reported.

A lot of sun in many places especially in the outer regions. Somewhat more clouds have been reported in inner Trøndelag and in the mountain areas in Møre og Romsdal.

– “In central Norway it will be a very nice weekend and not very cold. It will be between zero and a few degrees in the minus,” says Gislefoss.

Mixed precipitation in Western Norway
In Western Norway south of Stad there will be periods of heavy rainfall. Gislefoss describes the west country’s weather as “mixed precipitation”.

The wind that has been around this week will diminish during the day on Thursday and be replaced by rainfall in the lowlands and snow in the higher altitudes. There can be as much as 30-40 millimeters of rainfall in Western Norway during Thursday.

Friday there will be periods of sun, before more rain begins again for Westerners on Saturday and Sunday. The temperature will generally be between three and five degrees Celsius.

Gray weather in the south

– “In southern and eastern Norway it will not be the best weekend. There will be a lot of clouds. Rain, sleet and snow for periods,” says Gislefoss.

There is a lot of gray in eastern Norway, and along the coast there is rain as well. A little inland and up to the altitude over 200 meters there will be snow. There are also opportunities for snow in Oslomarka.

– “Down in the town itself there are reported above freezing temperatures, but a little higher up in the mountains there may be some snow,” says Gislefoss.

But there will not be large quantities. In total, it is forecasted between 10 and 15 millimeters of precipitation until Sunday.

In Southern Norway and Telemark there will be some more rainfall with possible accumulations of 30–40 millimeters during the weekend. In terms of temperature it will be 0 to 2 degrees Celsius along the coast. In Kristiansand, 3–4 degrees Celsius have been reported. Further inland and in the higher altitudes there will be some minus degrees.

Quiet north of the country
“In Northern Norway, it will be relatively calm in the inner regions, with the possibility of some snow. In the outer regions, the most will receive nicer weather with breaks in the clouds,” says Gislefoss.

Much southeasterly wind has been reported. In exposed places, small to strong breezes will blow.

In terms of temperature it will be mostly on the minus side. In Bodø it will be around the zero freeze point.
