At the request of the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Sandra Borch (SP), the Norwegian Directorate of Agriculture will assess the possibility of emergency storage of grain in Norway.
The deadline for the report is June 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food wrote in a press release.
“It is important for me to point out that the Norwegian food security as of today is good, but it is also important to think about the preparedness in the context of food supply,” Borch said.
“This work is important in order (for Norway) to be better equipped for, among other things, natural events such as crop failure and in the face of security policy crises such as the one we are experiencing now,” Borch added.
She emphasized that such emergency storage in Norway should not affect the food supplies on which developing countries depend.
