53-year-old Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) leader Hans-Christian Gabrielsen has died.
Gabrielsen died today, Tuesday, March 9, at home in his home in Slemmestad, according to FriFagbevegelse. The cause of death is currently unknown.
“It is with deep sadness that we received the sad message about Hans-Christian today. My thoughts now go to his wife Trine and daughter Camille, as well as his immediate family. I have lost a good friend, and LO has lost a towering leader, who had many years of work ahead of him,” the first deputy leader of LO Peggy Hessen Følsvik told FriFagbevegelse.
“Hans-Christian was a leader who will be remembered for his honesty and his deep commitment to workers. He was highly respected… The entire LO family is in mourning,” Hessen Følsvik added.
Gabrielsen became the leader of LO at the congress in 2017. He originally came from Fellesforbundet, and was deputy leader of LO for the previous four years.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Hans- Christian. I had met HC during the 25th delegation of the Norwegian Yorkshire school exchange. He was a kind, warm man with huge presence who had the utmost respect for his fellow workers and trade unionists. R. I. P Hans.
