Navy gets new and powerful cruise missiles
Eleven Norwegian naval vessels will install cruise missiles that can attack targets over 200 km inland.
This allows the Norwegian Armed Forces for the first time , and as one of the very few countries in the world, mid-range cruise missiles launched from ships as part of the military arsenal, the newspaper VG reports. The upgrade takes place this week.
– This increases our overall military capabilities significantly. The Norwegian navy will now able to attack targets on land with a weapon system that has a long range and high precision, says information officer in the Navy, Commander Per Rostad.
This is a further development of the so-called NSM missiles that are capabale of hitting targets several hundred kilometers inland.The missiles are designed and built by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace in collaboration with the Armed Forces.
