A total of 500 children with the coronavirus could be hospitalized in the season ahead, which is less than the hospitalization figures for RS virus and influenza, according to a rough estimate from the FHI.

During a normal winter season, between 1,000 and 2,000 children are hospitalized with the RS virus in hospitals, and around 500 children with the flu are admitted, department director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) said at the press conference on the corona situation on Wednesday.

The FHI believes that the coronavirus will enter a new phase where it will eventually not pose a greater threat to children than other circulating viruses.

The calculation from the FHI is that there are about 725,000 children under the age of twelve in Norway and that 0.4% of Norwegian children with corona have been hospitalized.

Children with COVID-19 or MISC as the main diagnosis make up about 0.3% of admissions.

MISC is a rare and serious complication, which is an inflammatory condition that can occur in some people two to six weeks after corona infection.
