Norway’s Red Party (Rødt) believes that Norway should not send weapons to Ukraine now but supports the government’s proposal to send military equipment.
“Norway is in a special position compared to a number of other countries because we border directly on Russia,” Rødt leader Bjørnar Moxnes told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).
Rødt believes that, for that reason, Norway should not send weapons to Ukraine now. However, it supports the government’s proposal to send military equipment to the country.
Sanctions
On Sunday, the government announced that Norway would join the EU’s new sanctions against Russia. That means, among other things, that Norwegian airspace will be closed to Russian aircraft.
In addition, the government has decided to send military equipment to Ukraine – mainly helmets and protective equipment.
Moxnes says the Red Party wants sanctions that affect the Russian oligarchs, in parallel with economic, humanitarian, and other forms of support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
