On Monday, quarantine requirements will be introduced for numerous travelers from Värmland and Västra Götaland. The Eastern Police District is preparing for chaos at the border crossings.
“People have to wait in line, both at Ørje and Svinesund. We have increased staffing along the border,” operations manager Karianne Knudsen told the newspaper VG.
Already on Saturday morning, the cars started to queue at Svinesund, according to Vegtrafikksentralen øst.
“From experience, I guess there was a waiting time of at least one hour in the queue there. It often gets worse as the day progresses. It usually goes all the way down to Nordby shopping center,” traffic operator Mette Brunæs noted.
Infection map changes
Smaller queues are also beginning to appear at the border crossing at Ørje.
On Monday, Värmland and Västra Götaland will go from “green” to “orange” on the FHI’s infection map. Travelers from these areas will thus have to be quarantined when they arrive in Norway.
Fully vaccinated people and those who have had COVID-19 in the last six months are exempt from the quarantine requirement.
