In 40 muskox herds, a total of 71 adult cows and 49 calves have been registered by the end of the summer muskox count.
The number of calves born this year is thus above the average for the Dovrefjell area, Tord Bretten from the Norwegian Environmental Protection Agency told Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen in July.
Dovrefjell National Park is the only place in Norway, and one of few places in the world, where the majestic muskox can be found, according to Visit Norway.
The muskox can weigh up to 400 kilos and is considered to be a peaceful animal.
Tourists can see the animals in their natural habitat via safaris through the Dovrefjell National Park with experienced guides.
