Greenpeace activists at Åsgårdstrand have been stopped by the police. They were planning to protest against a tanker that supplies Russian oil to Esso Norway.

The plan was to go out to the tanker Ust Luga to hold a peaceful protest, but the police on the spot stopped the protest, Greenpeace stated on Monday.

Around ten protesters with three rubber boats gathered at Åsgårdstrand on Monday.

The activists demand that Norway stop importing Russian oil that finances Putin’s warfare and that the tanker is refused to unload. In addition, Greenpeace demands that the government support an extension of the EU sanctions list to include all imports of Russian oil and gas.

Russian oil

Esso Norway confirmed to Dagbladet’s Børsen last week that they are the recipient of the oil from Russia.

“The purchase contract was entered into before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Esso Norway does not have other contracts for the purchase of products from Russia,” information director Anne Fougner in Esso said.

She stressed that the cargo is not covered by current sanctions against Russia.

EU sanctions against Russia were introduced in Norway on March 18 this year.
