Two men in their 70s lost their lives after a canoe overturned in Numedalslågen near Steinsholt in Larvik Municipality on Wednesday morning.

“There were two married couples in the canoe. It is hard and brutal for the relatives when such an accident happens,” operations manager Anne Mayer in the Southeastern Police District told TV 2.

The two women, in their 60s, got ashore and have been taken care of by health services. The relatives have been notified, newspaper VG writes.

“We are now working on-site to clarify the course of events,” the Southeastern Police District announced on Twitter.

According to TV 2, the two dead men were in their 70s.

Resuscitation unsuccessful

“Health services tried resuscitation on the two men who were picked up from the water. Unfortunately, it did not work,” Mayer said.

The accident happened on Wednesday morning when the canoe overturned in Numedalslågen by Steinsholt in Larvik Municipality.

“Four people were involved in the incident. Two people managed to reach the shore,” the police wrote on Twitter just before 9 AM.
