Two men have been sentenced to prison after they picked up what they thought was 50 kilos of cocaine from a container in the port of Oslo. The police had replaced the drugs with potato flour.

The incident happened the night of September 12 last year, according to newspaper Nettavisen.

The cocaine was transported in a banana container from Ecuador, via Germany.

German police discovered the cocaine, replaced the drugs with potato flour, and sent the container on to Oslo.

Norwegian police waited there to see who would come to pick up the drugs.

Sentenced to prison

The two men, Albanian citizens and Greece residents, showed up on Sjursøya in Oslo in the middle of the night, picked up the packages in the bags, and rode off on bicycles.

Shortly afterward, they were apprehended by the police at Tøyen square.

They were recently sentenced to six and a half and five and a half years in prison, respectively.

Both confessed and therefore received a lesser penalty.
