Stoltenberg: Sweden could join NATO quickly – if they want that

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg believes Sweden could quickly become a part of NATO if the Swedes decided to join.

In the discussion about possible membership, it has been emphasized that Sweden could be extra vulnerable in the period between a possible application and approval of Swedish membership, Swedish Radio reports.

“I can not say how long it would take, but it could go fast if they want it,” Stoltenberg said about a possible membership for Sweden.

He told the channel that he also believes it would be possible to find transitional solutions that ensure Sweden’s and Finland’s military protection during the application process.

“I am sure that we can find a way to handle such a situation,” he said, without going into any specific details on how it could be resolved.

He also pointed out that both Sweden and Finland already work very closely with NATO and meet the alliance’s political and military requirements.

  1. The Russians cannot risk another 1340 kilometer NATO front if Finland joins. It has always seemed that if Sweden joined, Russia would occupy Finland.
As to non-NATO Sweden, the Russians could have dealt with it the moment the war-eager Swedes announced that they like the Danes would be sending weapons to the Ukrainians – I won’t say how – but the Russians didn’t, and that apparently would be too late now.

Other developments are that the Chinese are pledging humanitarian aid to the war, apparently not the military aid the Russians now desperately need. Did we promise them Siberia for their cooperation? In 1999, Russian democrat and president Boris Yelstin – betrayed and enraged by us breaking our promise and pushing NATO east toward Russia and then our Kosovo bombing war of (Rambouillet Appendix B) aggression went to China, where he suddenly started making nuclear threats against the U.S. and West, to the panic of Vladimir Putin and then-Foreign-Minister Igor Ivanov back in Moscow. (Did the Chinese tell Boris we had offered Russian Siberia to them then?)
The Russians are now desperately appealing to the *Indians* for weapons.

Finally, Bernard-Henri Levy – the acclaimed “architect” of our Libya holocaust war and who *led* the Kiev Maidan street demonstrations in 2014 initiating this tragedy in the first place – has shown up in Odessa, to gloat about the Russians’ bungled operations. Is he trying to provoke a Russian missile strike on the city to provide more accusations of Russian atrocities? Presumably, his stay will be fleeting. Kyiv next stop?

And yesterday, moderate Putin loyalist and former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said the U.S. would be “put in its place,” while Washington Post’s David Ignatius warned that a cornered Vladimir Putin could start pushing buttons.

Again, this is already far worse (with the war) and infinitely more dangerous (with missile forces on alert and having infinitely more dangerous weapons) than the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis when I was a junior in high school.

And I still see no genuine civil defense preparations being made in Norway for our loved ones … beyond pills which would be only temporary protection at best.
