Twelve people lost their lives in traffic accidents in April, almost as many as in the previous three months, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration announced.

“It has been a difficult month for traffic safety. The April figures alone correspond to the sum of those who died in the first three months of the year and are a development we do not want,” Guro Ranes, head of traffic safety at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, said.

So far this year, 25 people have died on Norwegian roads. In the same period last year, the number was 14.

This year’s figure is the highest since 2016, when 31 people lost their lives in the first four months of the year.

Rogaland registered the most fatalities, with seven deaths in traffic so far this year. Vestland, Møre og Romsdal, Troms og Finnmark didn’t report any deaths in traffic so far.

Men are overrepresented among those who have lost their lives in traffic, 21 to 4. There are no children among those who died in traffic accidents so far this year.
