The Ukrainian defense chief thanked Norway for contributing howitzers to its army. The weapons are already in use in the war against Russia.
On his Facebook page, Ukraine’s defense chief, general Valery Zaluzhny, praised the Norwegian artillery for having a larger caliber and more powerful ammunition than the Soviet counterpart and having a range of 22 kilometers, Fremover writes.
“I am deeply grateful to the Norwegian people for effective help,” Zaluzhny wrote, adding that the equipment is already in place in the war zone.
The artillery was stored in Bjerkvik and Osmarka in Evenes since it was taken out of service, and Fremover discovered that over 20 of the decommissioned guns were test-fired at Setermoen in April.
The Norwegian Army confirmed that test firing had been carried out to see if the equipment still worked.
At the end of May, Teknisk Ukeblad reported that the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin thanked Norway for contributing artillery to Ukraine. However, the Ministry of Defense did not comment on the number or type of donated weapons until they reached the end-user.
