Two people in the Norwegian support team tested positive for coronavirus after landing in Beijing with the charter plane that transported Norwegian Olympic athletes to China.

Olympiatoppen announced the information in a press release after Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) first reported on at least one infected person on board the plane.

The people who tested positive have recently been infected with corona but tested negative at Gardermoen before departure.

“The two will now be tested again, to possibly confirm the first positive test. If these tests are also positive, isolation awaits them. Close contacts have not yet been clarified, but no athletes are close contacts related to these two cases “, communications manager Halvor Lea in the Olympiatoppen stated.

Testing status

Everyone on board the plane tested negative for the coronavirus before departure.

On the charter flight in question, there were many Norwegian Olympic athletes, including cross-country skiers, ski jumpers, and a number of biathletes.

On Friday, three people in the Norwegian Olympic support team tested positive after leaving Norway by charter flight. These three are now out of isolation after testing negative three times.

“After the isolation, the three have close contact status, which means that they can do their jobs, have to keep a distance of two meters, wear face masks, but stay in the room when they are not doing their job,” Olympiatoppen noted.
