Many people remember the small compartments with six seats, where stranger train passengers often got talking. Now, the compartments are on their way back.
From December 12, people can travel together in a separate compartment between Oslo and Bergen, whether it is day or night. Eight old-fashioned carriages from the continent have been refurbished for use in Norway.
“This is reuse, where we have bought and refurbished eight carriages with compartments that have previously run in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany,” explained Yvonne Torgersen Hetlevik, manager of the trains in Western Norway.
Unlike previous times, you order an entire compartment, meaning that you will have to make do with old acquaintances – probably an extra good offer for those particularly talkative!
There will also be more departures on the Bergen line as well as a separate, simpler sleeping offer with six beds in each compartment. Next year, there will also be recliners available.
In the carriages, there is also a freight area with space for eleven bicycles and larger luggage, such as sledges and skis.
